Patty: Hello, reader friends. I have Anya Summers with me today. I was thrilled to get her insight on her new series with Blushing Books. Anya, even though I have read your book, can you tell my friends about your newest release?

Anya: Certainly. I’m so excited for you to meet Declan and Zoey. For me, this was such a great book to write. Zoey is a confident, independent woman who thinks she knows what she wants out of life until her world comes caving in on her. In an attempt to salvage her sanity and her life, she takes a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to the Scottish Highlands where she inadvertently winds up on Declan’s doorstep. The fireworks between these two is incredible.

Patty: And are you working on anything right now? Will you sneak and tell me about it? I won’t tell anyone if you do…

Anya: Yes, I am currently working on the third book in the Dungeon Fantasy Club Series, Two Doms for Kara. And holy smokes, what a book! I just finished a scene between the heroine and her two Doms that I needed to fan myself off after writing. After I finish Kara’s book, Zoey’s BBF Lucy Martin heads to the Dungeon Fantasy Club with her very own story, His Driven Domme.

Patty: So tell us, what inspires you?

Anya: Music is a huge inspiration for me. Many of the ideas I have had for my books were inspired by the plethora of music I listen to. I was a music major in undergrad and find that some of my most creative endeavors happen for me with music.

Patty: What were the challenges you faced (research, literary, psychological, and logistical) in bringing your latest book to life?

Anya: The biggest challenge was research on Scotland. I wanted to make sure I brought some of the Scottish Highlands to life in their current setting. I also wanted to ensure that the Manor I created for Declan’s home, and as one of the places for the Dungeon Fantasy Club, was realistically inspired and yet not an existing Manor home in Scotland. Thus I created Mullardoch Manor near Mullardoch Loch. That gave me a bit more freedom, than using an existing manor.

Patty: What books have influenced your writing most?

Anya: There’s not just one. I’ve been an avid reader my whole life. As an author, I think one of the most influential books that I believe should be in every writer’s toolkit is Stephen King’s book, On Writing.

Patty: How did you come up with your title?

Anya: I don’t typically feel I have a book until I have a title for it. When I developed this story, I knew that it would be the first stand alone book in my debut erotic romance series and I wanted to convey the place and type of story it is. My heroine is fascinated by the Highlands of Scotland. It’s something she’d felt in her blood the urge to visit. It fit that her hero needed to a Scottish Highlander and a Dom, hence the title Her Highland Master.

Patty: Did you include any experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Anya: No. I have always had a very vivid imagination. I do tend to use actors as the physical inspiration for my characters, especially the heroes. For Her Highland Master, Declan’s physical attributes were based off the actor Richard Armitage, who I have a thing for when he’s dressed as Thorin Oakenshield.

Patty: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Keep writing and working on your craft. I wrote my first book in 2001 and attended my first RWA Nationals in 2002 so as you can see there’s nothing overnight about my writing career. You will have days you want to give up, but keep going. Read everything you can get your hands on, not just the genre you want to write within, but go outside your box and comfort zone in your reading. It will expand your scope and make you a far better writer.

Her Highland Master

HerHighlandMaster_500x755Zoey Mills’s life is in shambles. She’s been accused of leaking her upper crust Hollywood clients’ data to an online magazine for a large payday. After a wine and chocolate-filled evening of drowning her sorrows, she determines that her best course of action is to leave her home in sunny Los Angeles for a week-long vacation in the Scottish Highlands. It’s the only way she can escape from the fact that her image is being splashed across the nightly news – and it might actually give her a chance to consider what her next move should be, now that her Great Master Life Plan has disintegrated into dust.

Unfortunately, she’s only just landed and is navigating the tiny roads in her rental car when a freak early autumn snow storm hits. Zoey finds herself stranded and winds up on the doorstep of Mullardoch Manor; home of the sexy Scotsman, Declan McDougal, who is her every dark fantasy brought to life.

Declan is one of the founding members of The Dungeon Fantasy Club. As a billionaire businessman and a Dom, he prefers to keep his sexual preferences and tastes away from the boardroom. He’s also become bored, not just with the club, but also with his life. None of the subs he meets can hold his interest for more than a night and it’s been that way for a long time. He just never wants more than a brief encounter. At least, not since his ex-fiancée cheated on him with another Dom and ran away. However, that all changes when Zoey barrels into his home uninvited and upends his luxurious but stale existence.

When Zoey finds herself without a place to stay, Declan makes her a tantalizing but scandalous offer: Stay in his home for the week, free of charge, and spend each night warming his bed. Or any other time of the day, for that matter. Deciding she doesn’t have much to lose and possibly everything to gain, Zoey accepts.

With Zoey’s every sweet subsequent cry of ecstasy, Declan uncovers a sub who warms not only his bed, but slowly thaws his frozen, scarred heart. And as Zoey explores her deepest fantasies, even as he spanks her bare bottom for disobeying his rules, she finds herself wanting more than just a week of unmitigated pleasure with the Dom.

Things seem to be progressing perfectly, both in bed and out, when Zoey’s past catches up with her. When he feels betrayed once more, and fears the woman he has grown to care for is not who she says she is, will Declan still be willing to risk his heart to become Her Highland Master?
