Dear Readers and Friends of Blushing Books,
It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our longest time writers, and a great friend of Blushing Books. Joannie K., who has written for Bethany’s Woodshed and Blushing Books since the very beginning of the company, passed away last Friday, June 15th.
The first book she wrote for Bethany’s Woodshed in 2001 was entitled “Unwilling Bride.” The last book she wrote for us using her Laurel Joseph pen name, is currently running on Bethany’s Woodshed and is entitled “Penny Candy.” She sent the final chapters of this to us shortly before she began experiencing breathing difficulties on Thursday, and ended the note to her editor with a wry little joke. So Joannie.
Over the nearly nineteen years of her writing for us, she wrote more than 200 books using at least ten pen names. From crazy science fiction to Puritan times, to contemporary mysteries to the Old West, Joannie wrote across all genres. However, she always returned to her first love – which was Westerns, both contemporary and historical. I think it’s very fitting that her final book has a sheriff, and a sassy miss who runs the general store in a sweet old-fashioned town.
You often hear the phrase, “He (or she) will be missed.” It is impossibly true when it comes to Joannie.
Joannie leaves her husband of 47 years, Lar, a son, a daughter, and two grandchildren. She also leaves a lot of heartbroken fans.
Rest in Peace, Joannie.
