I enjoyed reading this well written story. The author displayed her talent for characterization. The setting that she created was very realistic for that era. However, I would have appreciated a bit more explanation about how Brodie came to loose his memory. It is possible that I missed those details due to the fact that this book is actually a follow-up to another story, “Maggie Mine”. Still, it would have made this story even better had the author expounded on the origins of her leading characters injury. Yet, this one minor detail still did not detract in any way from my enjoyment of the story as a whole. As a matter of fact, this story kept me up well into the night because I was so anxious to see if Brodie and Annabelle would ever get their HEA. I got to admit the author had me on the edge of my seat there for a while.
Brodie was your typical Alpha male. But he had a vulnerable side, due to his memory loss that the author fully displayed. Who doesn’t love a sexy Alpha hero with a vulnerable side? Add to the fact that he is wearing a kilt? Well, that was the cherry on the top for me! His vulnerable side was his saving grace because I tell you that man sure was stubborn to a fault. His stubbornness in honoring the betrothal that he didn’t even remember making went a little too far in my opinion. I was more than a little outraged on poor Annabelle’s behalf. After all, wouldn’t it have been more honorable to marry her since he had already bedded her and knocked her up, rather than marrying that shrew, Agatha. Now, Annabelle was the perfect heroine. Saucy and strong willed. Yet, she had that submissive side to her that served as the perfect complement to Brodie’s dominant streak. With more than one bad guy after Annabelle this story stays interesting throughout the entire book. I really enjoyed this book. The storyline kept me interested with the perfect mixture of romance, action, and mystery. The story exhibits light shades of BDSM, not too overpowering, spankings mostly. So if that’s not your thing you may not wanna try this one. Personally, I loved it. So, I am happy to recommend this book to all historical romance fans as well as any fans of the BDSM genre.
