Clover could give in to the little girl forever and feel secure but unfulfilled, or fight every day for that balance between the woman she needs to be and the little girl she longs to be. Can she do both? Would he let her?
When her protector abandoned her to go into the Army, leaving fourteen-year-old Clover Sweet Medicine to go through high school virtually unsupervised, she felt as though her spirit had died. She survived the loss, and now she is eighteen and graduating. However, grad night turns into a life-changing event, complete with an arrest and loss of adult status. Suddenly, Clover needs a guardian, and the tribal council chooses the only person who cares enough to make her follow the rules: Jared. Will he be willing to reassure the little girl inside and still want the woman outside?
Jared Little Fox is a man of his word, and when he left to join the Army, it was to gain skills, a college degree and to earn money. He was going to fulfill his destiny with his tribe, and he was going to marry Clover Sweet Medicine. He tried to explain all this to Clover before he left but she’d turned a deaf ear. Now he worries that four years might have been too long, considering the changes in his girl. His Clover is a woman-child who is out of control, angry, scared, reckless, and desperate for love. She has lost all the security he had worked so hard to give her, ensuring she was happy, safe, and healthy since her early childhood.
Now, instead of letting them start their adult lives together, the council wants to kick her off the reservation. They charge him with the task of saving her once again – or else. He claimed her once. He could do it again. But will Clover be able to submit to a man she proclaims to hate? Can Jared help Clover find her security, see that he is her only hope for freedom, and she his only path to happiness, before it’s too late?

The story behind the story
I have always been fascinated with Native American history and way of life. As a military brat, I learned about all tribes as we moved about the country. The Comanche, Cheyenne, and the Kiowa were my favorite until I married my husband who is Tsimshian. Whenever I get the chance, I go to historical sites, read, and watch documentaries. So, when this story began to form in my brain, I wanted to portray the strength of the past melded into the fabric of who they are today and show the same pride in their roots, their traditions, and their tribe.
I wanted the same internal motivators for my Jared Little Fox. I wrote to that integral part of the Native American man or woman. The fact that more Native Americans, per capita, serve in the U.S. military than any ethnic group since the Revolution speaks to the Warrior, the protector in them, the pride in country. There is both an untamed beauty and a deep sorrow in Indian Country.
I portrayed the sad truth about some native youth, who must leave their culture and way of life to advance in the world but some come back to make their people stronger. Our Clover has lost her way after her protector leaves. He returns to reclaim his girl. Jared combines his strengths to hers and together they find real purpose amongst their people. The next books will increase that understanding of triumph over hopelessness.
Some little known facts of my story:
Jared Little Fox – only exists in my mind but when I first wrote the story, I wrote it as Jared Little Wolf. When I did some research for Cheyenne words, I found that Little Wolf was indeed a real Cheyenne warrior in their history and well revered, I decided not to risk offence. I changed Jared to Little Fox.
Clover Sweet Medicine- She had her name before the story was even fully fleshed out in my mind. When looking for Cheyenne words for Sweet Medicine, I found out there was a huge person in the Cheyenne culture named Sweet Medicine, male, who had the four sacred arrows and foretold of the horse age. WELL. I wasn’t sure what I should do but I did not want to change her name so I decided to keep it since the historical figure was male.
The few Cheyenne words used in the story are:
Mota’ayoth- spelled Motsé’eóeve, – (written phonetically in book) – Sweet Medicine
He heard her suck in air at his nakedness. The first time she had seen him in his skin. Slowing down with sheer willpower, he chuckled at her whine.
“You haven’t made love before, so we have to slow down, sweetheart, let you feel the foreplay.”
Jared walked her toward the door, landing a playful swat on her bottom as she tried to stop his movements out of the room. She put her legs around his waist, settled them on his hips and arched into him. He carried her the rest of the way to his room, kissing her exposed belly and laid her back on the bed. He spoke with a rumble in his voice.
“My baby didn’t do as she was told, did she, Clover?” He latched onto her nipple.
Her achy groan cried out her arousal. “No, sir. Are you going to spank me?”
He caressed her breasts and pushed her hands out of the way when she would cover them. “These beauties, like everything about you, are mine to possess, mine to play with, mine to love.”
As he massaged her breasts, she arched towards his punishing fingers as they pulled and twisted her nipples with increasing pressure. They were growing even stiffer as he lavished them with attention from his open mouth, his tongue, his lips, his fingers.
“Love me, Jared.”
“Oh, I love you, but I need to punish you for disobeying me. You haven’t had a big girl spanking, baby, but I think you’re ready for it.”
He slid her jeans shorts off and smiled when he saw the chill run across her legs at either air or expectation, he wasn’t sure. Jared massaged her panty clad bottom and her naked thighs. Sliding his hand down to her gusset, he slipped a finger into her sopping folds and smiled.
“Yes, you are so wet for me. All ready for your spanking. Why do you need a spanking, baby?”
“I, um, disobeyed you.”
“Mm hmm and what happens when my baby defies me?”
Her breathing increased. “You punish me.”
“Yes, and how do I punish you?”
“You spank me, oh, Jared, please, I’m achy.”
He spanked her sex lightly. “I’m the boss here. Remember?”
“Yes, please, sir, Jared, please spank me.”
She had become so desperate that tears were falling. He rolled her over and removed her dripping panties. He slapped her undulating bottom that dipped on impact then pushed back up to him immediately for another smack. Rubbing and slapping her ass, kissing, rubbing, slapping seemed to be too much, and Clover tried to find her own nub for relief.
“No, no, I’m coming in first.” He pulled her hand away as she cried her frustration.
