Even though Katie and Gavin have their hands full between their three young children and their company responsibilities, they never lose sight of their own relationship, which is as vibrant as ever. Even in their forties, they find plenty of time for love, and Katie’s behavior still lands her over Gavin’s knee from time to time, a result he’s promised will last into old age if need be.

For years Danvers Industries struggled with too few family members, but with three young Kerr children on the horizon, the company’s future looks bright. Fifteen years later, as the new generation is starting to take their places in the family business, an amazing visit surprises them all.

Then there’s Katie’s daughter, Sarah, who’s always dreamed of finding a man like her daddy, but what happens when she really does? She’s shocked to discover what her mother learned decades earlier – that Scotsmen have a way of dealing with misbehaving girlfriends. Will she let her pride come between her and the man she loves, or can she learn from her mother’s history?

Follow along in the last installment of the Family Business Series as Katie and Gavin celebrate their enduring love and watch their children come of age.

“I’m surprised you haven’t made a big deal about my leaving without you,” commented Katie as she buttered a big piece of hot cornbread.

“I’m waiting for the right moment.”

Katie giggled slightly. “Are you planning on telling Santa Claus?”

“No, I’m planning on spanking you when we get home.”

Katie froze, her cornbread still in her hand. “Are you serious?”

“Very. I told you I wanted to go with you, and instead you deliberately left without me. You got spanked for something very similar many years ago, so I think a reminder is in order.”

“Just for curiosity’s sake, do you know how old I am?”

“I do.”

“Don’t you think I’m old enough to decide whether or not I need an escort?”

“Not when you don’t take your own safety seriously.”

“This city is full of women who work all hours of the day and night and who have to travel all alone without the benefit of male escort. I wonder how they manage it.”

“Every week a few of them don’t, and that’s my point. I’m well aware that statistics are in your favor, but I don’t intend to take any chances with your safety if I can avoid it. Until they catch whoever is responsible for this latest rash of muggings in the university area, I’m going to accompany you there whenever you go. As I’m sure you know, many of the women you alluded to would be more than happy to have a male escort if one were available, but when one isn’t, they have to be out there alone.”

Katie sighed. “You’re single-handedly setting the cause of women’s lib back fifty years.”

“If acknowledging that a strong man can usually overpower an average woman if he so chooses sets the cause back, the cause needs to get itself a firmer foundation.”

Katie glared at Gavin but didn’t answer. They’d been married ten years now, and she knew two things for sure: His sense of logic was every bit as good as hers, and if he said he was going to spank her, that’s exactly what he would do, regardless of her arguments.

She returned to her meal, but knowing a spanking awaited her at home somehow robbed her cornbread and pecan pie of their appeal.

“You’ve ruined my meal,” she complained, glaring at him.

“Not nearly as much as being mugged would have.”
