There was nothing average about the small town of Pine Falls, Nebraska in the year 1891. When a resident died and left his home and estate to the town, Sheriff Nolan used it to bring seven single ladies to their town. They’d grown up in an orphanage, but after becoming of age, had nowhere to go. He offered them the use of the now vacant home, and assured them several reputable businesses were looking for help. The small town welcomed the ladies, who finally felt like they were part of a community. There was now more than one seamstress in town, the restaurant owner finally had some help, and single men had ladies to court. However, since nothing was average in Pine Falls, unusual and dangerous things started happening. Sheriff Nolan and the men courting the ladies had their hands full solving mysteries and keeping the ladies they’d come to love safe.

He sat down next to her on the couch and took her hand in his. “My sweet Lizzie, I know you don’t like it when I spank you, and I don’t blame you. In fact, you probably don’t care much for me right at the moment, and I understand that. But I have to find a way to make you understand how dangerous it was for you two to be picking berries that close to the woods today. Bears generally like to stay in the woods, but if they find berries like that big patch, they will come out to get their fill of them. You were way, way, way too close. If you pick in that patch, or one like it, you have to stay much closer to the road, and watch the woods and that whole area carefully. If you see a bear, it’s important that you move away from them, toward the wagon. Don’t run, but move steadily away, and leave as quickly as you can. That’s why you need a lot of space between yourself and the woods, where they’ll be coming from, and why you have to be close to your wagon. Do you understand?”

“Yes, and I’m sure I’ll remember it next time.”

“Will you?”

“Of course I will. I just needed to be reminded, since this is my first spring here.”

He shook his head. “But see, you told me that twice last fall, as well. And both times, you later forgot. I have to make sure you don’t forget again. I hope after this spanking you’ll remember.”

“Because it will take something I enjoy, picking fresh strawberries, and ruin it. If you spank me now, every time I think about picking strawberries, I’ll remember this. I probably won’t even want to pick them again.”

“Sweetheart, I’m sorry, but my mind’s made up. If you enjoy picking strawberries, from now on when you consider picking some, hopefully you’ll think of this spanking and it will remind you how to pick them safely, so you can bring them home and make a wonderful pie that we can enjoy together. I can’t even bring myself to think about you picking berries like you were today and what would happen if a bear and her cubs came out of the woods.”

He could tell she didn’t want to think about that scenario, either, and decided while that was on her mind was a good time to start. Using her hand he held in his, he pulled her over his lap, and quickly lifted her dress, petticoat and chemise over her back. When he untied her drawers and separated them so he had access to her bare bottom, she objected. “Joe, you can’t do that. We’re not married yet.”

“But we will be soon, my dear. It’s important that you learn this lesson, which I’ve tried to impart to you on at least three previous occasions. I’ve told you before, I will do whatever I need to do to keep you safe, even if it requires a bare-bottom spanking from time to time.” With that, he pulled her up against him a bit tighter with his left hand and began the spanking. He was struck again by how much squirming she could do, for being such a little lady. Small, but feisty, he told himself with a smile. That was his Lizzie, and he loved every inch of her.

When her squirming got more pronounced, he tightened his grip and gave her three sharper swats. “Settle down, or you’re going to force me to get a paddle.”

“No, don’t. I can’t hardly stand this, it hurts so badly,” she said between gasps.

“It’s supposed to, but you need to settle down. If you weren’t so stubborn and would listen when I warn you about things out here we wouldn’t have to do this.”

“I did listen,” she managed to get out. “I just forgot.”
