Title: Of Love and Make Believe
Author: Samantha Schutzman
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Sometimes the deepest loves are those forged in conflict…
Princess Roxas is a shifter. Like her spirit animal, the tiger, she is wild and stubborn. She is also haunted by her past – literally. The hunters are after her, and in order to survive, she is forced into a marriage beyond her control. Her new husband, Prince Daxius, has the unenviable task of keeping her safe as the newlyweds try to rebuild their kingdom.
Daxius has come a long way from his own home in the Shadowlands to the broken kingdom of Vera; the lands over which he and Roxas must now rule. He is strong-willed and a strategic thinker, but he adheres to the rules too often for his own good. His way of keeping his new wife safe is to forbid her from leaving the castle and not let her run wild.
That is easier said than done. As feisty as she is beautiful, Roxas fights him at every turn, forcing Dax to maintain the upper hand.
Can they both come together amidst the chaos and keep each other safe? Will they be able to enlist the help of allies to aid in keeping the hunters at bay?
“Let me,” she purred. Her fingers slid down his sides until they dipped into his waistband. She tugged his pants down slowly as he watched her. Roxas followed his clothing downward, sinking down to her knees in front of him. Dax’s cock began to harden at the sight of her kneeling there in front of him. She smiled up at him wickedly and slid her fingers lightly up his inner thighs. She sighed with contentment, leaning forward, the tip of his cock brushing lightly against her soft cheek. She extended her tongue slowly, teasingly, and gave the head of his cock one light lick.
“Roxas,” he groaned in sudden frustration. He tensed, forcing himself to remain still, even though what he really wanted was to bury himself in the heat of her mouth and fuck that mouth the way he would fuck her pussy.
Roxas’s wicked smile only widened. “What’s the matter?” she teased softly before giving him another lick.
“You know what,” Daxius grumbled.
“Haven’t a clue,” she breathed before running her tongue along the underside of his cock from the base to the tip. A shiver ran down his spine, his red eyes smoldering as he stared down at her. “Enough, Roxas, just—” He stopped; groaning loudly as she slowly slid her mouth around his cock. She ran her tongue in a circle around the head before taking him deeper. Roxas groaned, and the vibrations nearly made his knees buckle. She got his cock about halfway into her mouth before she thought to tease him again. She began to withdraw his cock from the heat of her mouth, but Daxius wasn’t having any of that. He grabbed her head, his fingers snaring tightly in her hair, and as he pulled her back down towards him, thrust hard. She took him all the way, the head of his cock forced into her throat. She stilled for a moment, but held her breath, and managed not to choke.
“Good girl,” he groaned. “I knew you could take it.” He held her there for nearly half a minute, until she was obviously becoming a bit uncomfortable from lack of air. He slid back from her mouth, letting her take a quick breath before thrusting forward again. “I’m going to have your mouth the same way I’ve taken everything else,” he told her as he slid back again.
She groaned immediately in response to the forcefulness of his words. Roxas felt her abdomen tighten and her folds grow slicker. She pressed her hand down between her legs, parting her folds.
“I didn’t say you could do that.” Daxius chuckled and she immediately moved her hand. He smiled at her obedience, having learned very quickly in the last few days that this was the sort of thing she seemed to enjoy the most.
Daxius led Roxas into one of the small sitting rooms within the castle. “So…I thought since we had a moment, perhaps I might be able to get to know you a bit better.” He told her as they went into the room.
Roxas stifled a laugh as she flopped down in one of the overstuffed chairs. “Are you going to ask me more questions?” She asked Daxius as she watched him sit on the couch across from her.
“Well that was the idea, yeah.” Daxius said. “Only this time I’m the only one who gets to ask the questions.” He told her. Roxas had a knack for steering them off topic anyway.
“Okay, I guess. Ask away.” She motioned towards him.
“Do you prefer coffee or tea?” Daxius asked.
“Wine.” Roxas answered smoothly as her lips twitched into a small smirk.
Daxius stared at her for a moment before he exhaled into a soft sigh. “That isn’t one of the choices, Roxas.” He chided. “Why must you always make things so difficult?” He grumbled.
“I don’t like coffee or tea. I do like wine though. Red ones.” Roxas smiled in a bit of amusement. “You never said I couldn’t come up with my own answers.” She pointed out. She laughed a little inwardly. Daxius was so much fun to poke fun at from time to time.
Daxius’s lips parted to speak before they closed and became a hard line. The two simply stared at one another for a moment as if to see who would give first.
“Fine.” Daxius said shortly. “Wine. Next question.” He paused for a moment to consider what to ask her next. “Do you have any hobbies?” He asked her. When her lips parted to speak he added, “Other than running off or finding new inventive ways to vex me.” Daxius smiled lightly.
Roxas chuckled a little at that. “I like to help with the gardens.” She told him.
Daxius raised an eyebrow. “You do?” He asked a bit doubtfully.
“Yes. Is there something wrong with that?” Roxas challenged.
“No. I just hadn’t really thought you the type to care about things like that.” Daxius gave a light shrug of his shoulders. “I’ve never really seen you out in the gardens either.”
“When have we had the time?” Roxas laughed lightly.
“Okay. Point made.” Daxius conceded. “What is your favorite color?”
“Gold.” She answered immediately.
“I should have known that.” Daxius chuckled.
“Mhm…Like the time you had started to ask me what my favorite animal was.” Roxas mused.
“Okay, okay. So I’m not very good at coming up with good questions for you.” Daxius smiled. “Do you prefer chocolate or vanilla?” He asked.
“I like caramel.” Roxas smiled, her eyes daring him to challenge her again.
He stared at her for a moment before clearing his throat and moving on to the next question this time. “What is…” He paused for a moment as he was clearly struggling with coming up with another question he might ask. “What is your favorite type of clothing to wear?” He asked awkwardly, as he didn’t even know anything about fashion.
“I prefer to be naked.” Roxas smiled wickedly.
“Oh.” Daxius said.
“Oh.” She repeated. “Honestly I don’t even know why I have these clothes on right now. It’s a bit stuffy in here, isn’t it?” She sighed a bit dramatically before she began to tug her shirt off.
Daxius watched her for a moment. “I think that’s enough questions. Actually, it is kind of hot in here, isn’t it?”
