Jenny is happily married to her strong, gorgeous sheriff. She has great friends and a good job. But life is never perfect, is it? Within a short time, she and Cal have to move from the home they’re renting to living with his parents, and then they receive life-changing news from her mother’s lawyer.
Jenny’s friend and boss, Allie, has her share of problems, too – money woes, grabby clients, and burglaries near her work.
When Jenny and Allie try to keep their worries from their protective husbands, they find out what it means to have an alpha man to deal with. After the girls are attacked at work, things seem to go from bad to worse. Taking on adult responsibilities is never easy, as they’re finding out the hard way. Good thing they have their older friends, Cassie, Sue, Annie and Lily to fall back on…
Publisher’s Note: This steamy romance is the fourth in the Cal’s Law series, but it can be enjoyed independently. It contains elements of power exchange.
Why do you write the books you write?
As writer are told to do, I write what I want to read. I try to write realism about domestic discipline. I’ve been interested in loving domestic discipline since I was a small child. But I want the love story to be the core of my books. I enjoy reading and writing about spanking, but I need to know that there is a real reason, be it discipline or sexy fun. I’m low key on sex in most of my books. When I describe the sex in Cassie’s books, you know it’s there, it’s intense and passionate. But it’s not in your face, it’s more subtle. I want to rely on your imagination of the perfect encounter to fill in the details.
When did you know you wanted to be an author?
I wanted to write books as soon as I began reading them. But as a child, who couldn’t spell – and this was long before spellcheck – and the comments about my youthful writing from teachers, led me to believe this was impossible. I didn’t try writing again until just before I turned fifty. At that time I began writing stories to please myself and eventually I was able to publish.
What is your writing process like?
My characters tell me their stories. I simply listen and type. I once saw a picture in my mind where Cassie was in danger. I had no idea what had led my character to this point or how it would turn out. It was two more years before I knew.
What do you love most about books?
I like to lose myself in other worlds, other time periods, other lives. I often read books over and over and like visiting with an old friend, I feel safe and comfortable within the pages.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Too many to count so I’ll contain my answer to the vanilla authors I enjoy: Ann B. Ross, Donna Ball, Jan Karon, Donna Steele and Diane Chamberlain.
Libraries or bookstores?
Definitely bookstores. The librarian at my school when I was a child believed books were to be worshiped, not touched. My books are my friends and I want to keep them close. Thank goodness for Kindle, my book piles were taking over.
Over time, however, she realized that a serious spanking was sometimes needed. They were rare, but they were also, strangely enough, comforting. She needed to know that Ryan was there for her, as steady as a rock. She needed to struggle against him, she needed Ryan to win the struggle and spank her hard. She even craved the pain. The pain would push everything else aside, at least for a short time. She needed the ultimate surrender, the release, the tears, the aftercare, the reconnection—she needed it all. And from the look in Ryan’s eyes, she was definitely about to get it.
When he pulled her firmly by the hand into the bedroom, Allie felt obliged to protest, muttering that she’d done nothing wrong and that Ryan had no reason to spank her. Ignoring her, he reached into the drawer of the nightstand and pulled out the antique black hairbrush that was only used for serious spankings and tossed it onto the bed. Allie stared at it with a mixture of dread and relief. This wasn’t going to be a ‘play’ spanking.
He pulled her across his lap with one swift tug. Now, Allie felt free to fight, and she twisted and tried to roll off his lap. A tremendously hard pop from the brush stopped her struggle for a moment and made her gasp.
“You’d best be still. You’ve been asking for this,” Ryan told her. “Now give me your hand.”
“No!” Allie cried. “You’re just being mean!”
Another scorching lick from the brush, and she gave in. Putting her hand back, she felt Ryan take her wrist and hold it firmly to the small of her back. That accomplished, Ryan began spanking with his hand over her shorts. He was spanking hard, and Allie could tell he was seriously pissed, though very much in control of his anger.
This warm-up was hard and fast. He covered both cheeks several times and the top of her thighs as well. Allie tried to keep quiet. This was what she needed, and she didn’t want him going easy on her.
Ryan paused, but he didn’t try rubbing any of the sting away. “Do you understand why you’re getting this spanking?” he asked.
“There isn’t a reason! You’re just being a bully,” Allie made herself say.
Ryan said no more. He grabbed the waistband of her shorts and pulled them down, along with her panties, to mid-thigh and out of his way.
